The bitcontrol® MPEG-2 video and audio decoder is part of the bitcontrol® media player for MS Windows® 98/ME/2K/XP and for RTOS QNX® 6.x. 
Both decoder parts, video and audio, are running as built-in DirectShow® Filter under MS Windows® or as plug-in under RTOS QNX® 6.
 It can also be used in conjunction with other multi-media players, which are able to load DirectShow® filters or QNX® plug-ins.

The bitcontrol® MPEG-2 decoder is very robust against input failures, like drop outs of the input stream, like bit errors and other signal noise. So, the decoder is very suitable for DVB-T, DVB-S and internet streaming applications.

The bitcontrol® MPEG-2 decoder is capable of real-time decoding of MPEG-2 video bitstreams of all profiles and all levels up to High Levels with 80 Mbps, including 4:2:2 chroma format, e.g. for Main Profile@Main Level,. 
The decoder is compatible with ISO/IEC13818-2 (MPEG-2 video) and ISO/IEC 11172-2 (MPEG-1 video) standards.
 Most of the standard requirements are implemented, except minor usual features, e.g. except for the scalable mode features "Spatial" and "SNR" and except for 4:4:4.

The bitcontrol® MPEG-2 Audio Decoder supports the audio formats LPCM and MPEG-1 Layer 1/2. 
For video files using the AC-3 audio code, audio filters of third parties have to be used.

The bitcontrol® MPEG-2 decoder is highly optimized for Intel® MMX-, SSE-, or SSE2-equipped processors. It runs on all suitable Intel® Pentium® processors greater Pentium® II, 300 MHz (CIF format).

The bitcontrol® MPEG-2 decoder contains additional useful features for customer applications, like overlay rendering of bitmaps with 7-Bit alpha blending, freeze frame as JPEG-file, clock rendering etc.
